The Season of Advent

It’s December and the time before
Christmas lasting four weeks or so,
Advent season celebrates the events
before His birth centuries ago.

I've read about the three travellers
their journey that took many a day,

Kings, wise men, magi or star-gazers
were they one or all, can’t really say.

A bright star they had seen, of its
wondrous presence they had to know,

Of a great ruler come they had heard
they bring gifts in homage, to adore.

No stroll in the park or a ride in a
car, ahead they faced perils and delay,

they rode; only a star to show the way.

Matthew wrote of the magi’s journey
how to Bethlehem they planned to go,
Luke about shepherds and angels singing
praises, wishing peace on earth below.

In church, I see a manger with Mary,
Joseph, magi and shepherds on display,

As they look down at the Infant in sleep
I bow my head, with thanks I pray.

I close my eyes; I watch not babies in
mothers’ arms or friends who say hello,
My mind’s filled with the vibrant voices

Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer, Easter
are grand, Lent is sad, grieving and grey,
I love Advent for it comes with hope and
eager anticipation for that incredible day.
