Horses

The Almighty, at peace, put forth
His hands and created horses,
as companions to man and as part
of earth’s beautiful creatures.

I love to look at horses, at their
beautiful streamlined form,
the intelligent look in their eyes or
gaze at their stampeding storm.

Envy fills me to see people who
live in wide open ranches,
who wake up to the sounds of soft

neighing and delightful canters.

Relatives and friends have given

me, mementos of beauty -
mustang, colt, stallion, steed,
filly, mare and pony.

A brooch from Harrods, a horse-
drawn cart from New York,
"horse" "good luck"

a fire-breathing horse lighter and
a horseshoe for good luck.

Brown ones, grey ones, black and white, and cross-stitched,
gold coloured horses with wings,

bronzed, wooden and bleached.

Safely placed in the show-case at
home, for all to behold,
but only when no-one is around

that they are mine to hold.

Very well written Jacinta. Your poem adds and rightly so more beauty and majesty to these creatures. A wonderful read.

I'm sorry, Nishu, for not giving a reply to your comments earlier. My daughter asked me a few minutes ago, "Don't you ever read the comments on your blog?" I answered timidly, "I don't know how to." ... and she showed me. Thank you ...... I'm glad you liked my poem on horses.
